Polkadex was founded by Vivek Prasannan, Deepansh Singh and Gautham J in 2020. Gautham J, a 3rd-year B.Tech undergrad student at National Institute of Technology, Calicut, India. He has been at the forefront of distributed ledger technology by launching his own version of a consensus algorithm known as Pebble using Lamport’s vector clocks which is still in progress. The team received a blockchain innovation award from the BFSI sector by Banking Frontier. Deepansh Singh, a 4th-year B.Tech undergrad student at National Institute of Technology, Calicut, India. worked with multiple early-stage startups for developing business strategies and exited after making those startups a success. One of the startups that he worked got the Best Startup award in the National Institute of Technology Startup Conclave. He is also part of the Innovation Council for universities in Kerala under the Government of India. We chose Polkadot among other blockchains because it offered us an opportunity to create a highly scalable and fully decentralized platform for a peer-to-peer and trustless token exchange. From the ideation stage, we stated that the Polkadex platform must provide high-frequency trading, high liquidity and ultra-fast transaction speed to support DeFi applications. Aiming high, we also had very high requirements that are difficult to find in a single network.Ethereum network has major scalability issues and is unable to handle the high volume of transactions that we envisioned for Polkadex. There are plenty! The logic behind Polkadex was to find a model and tech able to solve the pains of modern traders and crypto users. To start with, none of the present decentralized exchanges supports a fast enough trading engine to run the traditional order book, which the rest of the financial world is familiar with. They also lack liquidity due to this. It is difficult to build an orderbook exchange that gives verifiability. It is a lot more headache than building an AMM. Hence, all of them have moved to AMM based DEX, based on the success of Uniswap. We don’t see it as the solution; we see it as a compromise. There is a huge technology gap to be filled, and we hope to fill it using existing technology available through Bitcoin, Ethereum & Polkadot. If you can make a traditional exchange run in a decentralized way, you empower the people by lowering costs, improving security, and reducing capital controls. Right now, it is not popular because people don’t find it easy to use DEXes. The main goal of Polkadex is to bridge the gap between decentralized and centralized exchanges, creating an ultimate trading experience for any type of crypto trader from newbies to professionals. PDEX Blockchain will reward anybody who provides liquidity to the exchange. We have several mechanisms to make this happen including the sharing of inflation with the liquidity providers and also by tapping into treasury to reward some of the largest contributors. The mechanism we have in mind will be perpetual and will be funded by the treasury which in turn will be benefiting from the amount of trades happening on the various decentralised applications running on the Polkadex Blockchain. We didn’t plan any airdrops yet and it’s not my preferred way of marketing to be honest, because it attracts a lot of pump&dump crowd. Polkadex was featured multiple times in ChainNews, PANews and other major publications, we had several AMAs in our communities and external ones, etc. Now the path pretty much depends on the crypto situation in the region.
