Why NFTs? ?

Hey everybody! ????

I’m a Product Manager here at Voice and am incredibly excited to share that I’ll be one of several members of the Voice team steering the ship towards NFTs natively on our platform. If you haven't heard already, NFTs are officially coming to Voice and we are inviting the community to nominate their favorite designers to be commissioned to help collaborate on our first series.

What’s an NFT, you ask? ?

NFTs are Non-Fungible Tokens, a special type of token that is linked to a good that is either material or immaterial (physical piece of art vs in-game armor upgrade) that have several really interesting attributes. To name just a few:

Provably owned - an item that has been minted as an NFT can have its ownership proven via auditing of the blockchain related to the latest transaction it has been a part of

Tradeable - NFTs can be exchanged between different types of accounts using crypto wallets

Provably scarce - as part of their definition via code, an immutable attribute of each NFT minted is how many of them were created to define how rare something may be

Indivisible - like many modified goods we are familiar with in our every day, NFTs cannot be broken down into smaller parts. This is uniquely different from other token types like many of the cryptocurrencies you may be familiar with

Programmable - NFTs can be programmed to do whatever you want depending on your unique use case and the right technical savvy. Remember, we can do anything with computers!

?The use cases for NFTs these days continues to expand as ways to exchange digital goods, but examples can be found for

Creative digital works including visual art and music

In-game assets including plots of land and various upgrades

Domain names

Random, ultra-rare digital collectibles

Any physical good or service somebody ties to an NFT!

The opportunity NFTs present as a mechanism to reward creators cannot be ignored. As Voice continues to explore methods to bring attention to quality content on our platform, we want to take things a step further towards our commitment to make sure people creating value get what they deserve. While the iron is hot with this topic and the subject of rewarding creators we look forward to what the future holds for Voice’s creators.

I am psyched to help Product Manage NFTs here at Voice. For our first NFT, we’re creating a Voice OG Badge for our ride-or-die Original Genesis members, to honor them for sticking with us as we’ve built Voice. We will also roll out an NFT for all Genesis members on Voice and an NFT for Genesis Friends & Family.

In typical Voice fashion, we are inviting the community to nominate their favorite designers to create our next NFTs. We will then commission a curated group of creators and hold a community vote to select the final submissions.

The story won’t end there though! Expect more updates from me as we begin to formalize our plans for allowing users to mint the content they care about most and get rewarded for it. We’ve got a lot to learn together and I’m excited to do that with this amazing community.
