Mogul is a DeFi and NFT platform for the film industry. We have been building this project for over two years and just recently launched our first iteration of the platform on February 18th.Over 45k users have joined the platform since our launch and that number continues week-by-week.

Our platform takes submissions of films looking for financing, reviews them for creative and commercial aspects and then, puts them up in our showcase so our community can interact and vote on the projects they want to see made.

Over the last two years, we have attracted an amazing advisory team of film industry participants including producers, professional actors and business professionals that have worked with major studios such as Netflix, Sony, and Lions Gate and have won Oscars and Emmy’s for their work.

Our goal is to build products that allow the film industry masses to onboard to blockchain in a frictionless manner. In terms of our go-to-market strategy, we’ve initially focused on blockchain-native users with a lot of success and will soon be transitioning, once our mainstream onboarding products are ready, to marketing in more traditional mediums to onboard more film industry users.

We do not believe there are any direct competitors to Mogul at this stage.? Nevertheless, there are indirect competitors and comparable companies trying to solve similar issues in the industry that could become potential collaborators and partners for Mogul in the future.

In terms of indirect competition, LegionM in the traditional space, is a fan-driven studio that does not use blockchain technology but aims to also provide engagement and input from the fans

There are presently no other blockchain companies who are focused on fan engagement and film financing like Mogul is right now. There are companies we’ve seen emerge since Mogul initially launched, such as Vabble (production launchpad), but we are not currently aware of any projects that have successfully released a functioning product yet.

Q3. How long have you been working on Mogul?

Mogul emerged as an idea in 2016.? Two years later, the original whitepaper was written and published. The concept of Mogul was inspired by how the blockbuster comic book film, Deadpool, was made. The gist of the background on Deadpool is that the studio was pitched the film and it rejected the concept repeatedly for years for various reasons. A teaser trailer for the film, however, was supposedly leaked by Ryan Reynolds to the fans. The fans LOVED the concept and pushed the studio’s hand to overcome their perceived risk of financing and producing Deadpool - which was an R-rated superhero film. I believe they didn’t think an R-rated Marvel movie would work and appeal to such a mass audience, but the fans suggested otherwise. Now, Deadpool is the highest grossing R-rated movie franchise in history - an incredible success story that we hope to replace with blockchain. Mogul wants to use the ‘Power of the Crowd’ to empower fans to make this happen for more movies that would otherwise get overlooked.

In 2018, Mogul also invested in several scripts, including the film ‘Bonded’.? The purpose was for the core team to document and operationalize the process prior to Mogu’s official launch. The team was inspired by one project’s willingness to provide transparency and better access not typically afforded to the various stakeholders of a film such as weekly/monthly reporting, movement of funds and behind the scenes access. Bonded is currently in post-production and is looking to be released later this year.

We launched a beta of Mogul to a test audience in mid-2020 and did user experience testing with hundreds of users. We took the results of our findings and restructured the platform for a product launch in February 2021 while significantly growing our core team of filmmakers, advisors, and software developers.

Mogul has a team of Hollywood, award winning veterans and financial titans. For example, Cindy Cowan is behind 4x Oscar-winning films (including Traffic starring Benicio Del Toro) and David Cormican, who is an Emmy-nominated producer who produced the first Netflix original deal from Canada. Mogul’s film team has worked with some of the largest studios and distributors in the industry and have deep connections within Hollywood.

We’re partnered with some of the best companies in blockchain, including Chainlink, Polygon, Biconomy, GD10 Ventures, Blocksync Ventures, Moonwhale Ventures, Avisa Ventures, ChainGuardians, and more. Their role in partnering ranges from key infrastructure partners to advisory and incubation services to help Mogul reach its goal of onboarding the masses of the film industry to blockchain technology.

We have some other key partners in the works from the film industry, but the reality is that we’re working to get the film industry to work at the incredible pace of the blockchain industry, and there are more checks and balances that need to happen at a corporate level to ink partners from the film space. We’re working on partners to assist with promotion, procurement, and distribution right now.

Q6. What are some major milestones coming up for Mogul?

Our growth farming campaign is currently ongoing, where users are earning a lot of STARS within our platform. In addition, we’ve just announced one of the largest contests in blockchain where users can collect NFTs to win 25 million STARS tokens and also win a part in a movie. Pretty incredible.

Rob’s physical paintings have routinely been sold for over $50k USD. To participate in this auction, users must own STARS tokens.

Q7. Where do you see Mogul in 3 years?

We see Mogul having a thriving community making multiple Hollywood feature films in a fan-centric way. We believe our platform will be the defacto place where movies meet blockchain with a robust user base using our DeFi, NFTs, and STARS-based products.

Q8. How does Mogul choose which movies to finance?

All projects are submitted to us through the Mogul platform. Our team has formulated certain criteria that is used to assess the viability of financing a project. We short-list films before they can be included in the Mogul showcase based on a number of factors including genre, quality of content, cast attachments, chain of title, ownership of relevant IP and commercial viability.? We work with the project teams to put forth marketing activities and various interactive initiatives with the community as a campaign of sorts to narrow the gap between the producers and consumers of content.

The STARS holders are the final gatekeepers. They are the ones that vote on what movies Mogul produces through our quadratic voting system, where all holders can vote on the films and earn STARS in the process.

Q9. What else are STARS tokens used for?

They are also used for governance and voting. Specifically governing a pool of 5% of profits accruing from Mogul-produced film (Chainlink oracle verifies this) and then also to vote on which movies get greenlit.

Current use cases also include growth farming, which is ongoing for STARS holders since the day we launched. Same with purchasing rewards.
